Biostatistics Workshop in Cancer Research Print
From Friday, 24 July 2009
To Sunday, 26 July 2009
Every day
Hits : 4941

Recent advances in our understanding of cancer biology, in molecularly targeted therapies, gene therapy, and pharmacogenetics, present new challenges for the design and analysis of clinical trials and of health economic and quality-of-life assessments.

The three-day event aims to provide training to graduate students, to postdoctoral fellows, and to multidisciplinary researchers who are interested or already engaged in statistical analyses in the area of cancer research.

The event also aims to provide a networking opportunity for (bio)statisticians, and to facilitate collaborative interactions with researchers in other disciplines (e.g. oncology, epidemiology, genetics and biology) from academic as well as pharmaceutical/industrial communities.

Richard Simon, Ph.D., Chief of the Biometric Research Branch in the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis at the National Cancer Institute (USA), will give a day-long tutorial on the first day of the workshop on biomarker methodology.

In particular, his tutorial will cover the development of prognostic and predictive classifiers using high-dimensional genomic data, and methods of evaluating the medical utility of prognostic and predictive classifiers in clinical trials.

Following the tutorial on Day 1, interactive research presentations will be given throughout Days 2 and 3 by leading experts in statistical cancer research.

Buffet lunches will be provided to all participants to enhance informal networking opportunities.
